VICTOR | ID
…on the ID/WY border near Driggs, ID and Jackson, WY
We’re back in Eastern Idaho at one of our favorite RV parks, except that this time we’re not in our trailer, we rented a cabin at Teton Valley Resort in Victor. Not only do we really like staying at the TVR but we really love this area. The people are great, the views are amazing and there’s tons of things to do in the great outdoors.
The last time we were here was April 2018 when things were just starting to thaw out. It was a great time of year because the Jackson Hole Summer crowds hadn’t yet come and we got to watch Spring arrive. While our timing was good we did just miss the ski season so we figured why not come back during the Winter and check out Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole ski resorts. They get TONS of snow here so we decided to store the Airstream four hours south in Salt Lake City where we just spent 3 weeks and rent one of the cabins at Teton Valley Resort.
Arrival Date: 2018-12-02
Departure Date: TBD
Campground/RV Park: Teton Valley Resort
Reason for Visit: We were here in Spring of 2018 and loved the area but just missed the ski season so we figured we’d come back in the winter.
Mike Harris Campground Trails: Whether you’re into hiking, mountain biking, fat biking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing, the trails at Mike Harris are awesome.
Grand Targhee Resort: If you want amazing snow without the frills (and lift lines) of Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee is the place to be.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort: Speaks for itself…
National Elk Refuge: “The National Elk Refuge provides, preserves, restores, and manages winter habitat for the nationally significant Jackson Elk Herd as well as habitat for endangered species, birds, fish, and other big game animals.“ It’s a beautiful place to visit any time of year. If you’re in the area in the winter definitely check out the horse drawn sleigh rides in the refuge. Except for a few weeks a year you can drive the road that goes throw the refuge and view all the amazing wildlife including elk, bison, bald eagles, trumpeter swans, bighorn sheep, and wolves.
Big Hole BBQ: Still one of our favorite BBQ spots in the country believe it or not. There’s also a location in Jackson but we haven’t been.
Knotty Pine: Bar & restaurant with a great old school lodge vibe. Also surprisingly good BBQ and good drink selection.
Teton Thai: I don't know why but there are tons of Thai restaurants in the area. Many of them were closed due to it being the off season. Others might be better than Bangkok Kitchen but it was respectable.
Big Hole Bagel and Bistro (Driggs): Classic American breakfast food - done right. Large portions of delicious food at a very reasonable price. Can't go wrong although, while the service was friendly it was a little slow and confused.
Tetanka Tavern (Driggs): Good pizza and great beer selection.
Butter Cafe (Victor): Good spot for coffee and/or breakfast but they also do dinner Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Seoul Restaurant (Driggs): Quality Korean food and sushi.
Chiang Mai Thai Kitchen (Victor): The Thai Sausage and Khao Soi are pretty darn good!
